Month of Thanksgiving - Day 3

Romans 5:1-11
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation works patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope makes not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who is given unto us.
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet perhaps for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11 And not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the reconciliation.

Paul begins Romans with a hopeless situation of you and me - the fallen condition of mankind and the righteousness of God in revealing His wrath toward sin. However, God made a way through His Son, Jesus Christ, to give us the free gift of salvation. Salvation comes only on the basis of God's grace working through man's faith. That is really great news! But in Romans 5, it is as thought Paul is now saying, “but wait, there is still more!” Once we were justified by faith in Jesus Christ, we not only have our sins forgiven, but also have a brand new relationship with God that will last through all eternity! Such new relationship will bring us a whole new world of blessings that we had not anticipated! In Romans 5:1-11, Paul tells us the following blessings of our justification.

  • Peace with God – which takes care of the past: we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son and He will no longer hold our sins against us;
  • Access to God - which takes care of the present: we can come to Him at any time for the help we need, and we can rejoice in God at every current moment even in tribulations;
  • Hope of the glory of God - which takes care of the future: when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again, we shall be saved from wrath through Him and share in His glory!
We have a salvation that takes care of the past, the present, and the future. Christ died for us; Christ lives for us; Christ is coming for us! Hallelujah, what a salvation, what a Savior!
