4 你們要靠主常常喜樂，我再說，你們要喜樂！ 5 當叫眾人知道你們謙讓的心。主已經近了。 6 應當一無掛慮，只要凡事藉著禱告、祈求和感謝，將你們所要的告訴神。 7 神所賜出人意外的平安，必在基督耶穌裡保守你們的心懷意念。8 弟兄們，我還有未盡的話，凡是真實的、可敬的、公義的、清潔的、可愛的、有美名的，若有什麼德行，若有什麼稱讚，這些事你們都要思念。 9 你們在我身上所學習的、所領受的、所聽見的、所看見的，這些事你們都要去行，賜平安的神就必與你們同在。10 我靠主大大地喜樂，因為你們思念我的心如今又發生；你們向來就思念我，只是沒得機會。 11 我並不是因缺乏說這話，我無論在什麼景況都可以知足，這是我已經學會了。 12 我知道怎樣處卑賤，也知道怎樣處豐富，或飽足或飢餓，或有餘或缺乏，隨事隨在，我都得了祕訣。 13 我靠著那加給我力量的，凡事都能做。
Philippians 4:4-13
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. 10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Paul’s repetition here and a major theme throughout the letter is one joy in Christ. Even in the most anxious, dark, or troubled times we are able to rejoice as our response is not to our circumstances but to Christ Jesus who is always worthy of rejoicing. Paul exemplifies this as he rejoices in his contentment—he’s so strengthened in Christ that his deepest needs are always met.
Even the tough parts of life that we cannot now or might never be able to fully understand can be faced with peace as we know God surely hears us and seeks to guard our hearts and minds. Yet we lose our ability to rejoice when instead of the pure, noble truths of God our minds are filled with lesser things that put the focus on us instead of the God of peace. Verse 9 is the key here: Rejoice for God is with you and your obedience to the things which you learned and received and heard and saw ensures you will have more and more for which to rejoice.
